I really need to stop reading the news. All it is is a cycle of sadness and a reminder that there are some incredibly boneheaded people among us. Try to make the world a better one place for each other, and try to lift each other up instead of tearing each other down. Cooperation and compromise are not weaknesses.

Just move to Yellowknife. Politics can’t follow you there.

Enticing!
Also not true, unfortunately.

It’s certainly not good for my sleep. I woke at 2am stressed about the election, and it’s only August. I’m going to be a wreck by November.

The more that I think about it, the more convinced I am my unhappiness has something to do with a notable lack of husky pics in my life.

Every dog smile is followed by a room clearing smell...in my experience.

Do yourself a favor. Stop watching the news. You already know who you're going to vote for. Why continually ruin your day?

This. So much this.

I refuse to watch or read any “news”. Pardon my slight tinfoil hat take, but it’s fear mongering plain and simple.
In this era there is no real way away from it. I can actively avoid the news and news sites and still know what is going on in the world because the internet has got us all.
If I see or hear something I think I ought to know more about, I start and usually stop with bbc news.

Perspective! The news only shows things that are newsworthy. Regular people going to work and school and doing regular stuff are boring. Regular people make up the overwhelming majority, but only the few outlier nutjobs make the news.

Same. Every once in a while I have to remind myself to stop reading the news. Get a bit to stay informed but after a point you’re just killing any happiness.

I’m fortunate to live in a place fairly protected from natural disasters but the closeness of the hurricane is still frightening. My heart goes out to everyone put in harm’s way when they can least afford it.

Yeah, a lot of those parts of your country have never fully recovered after the last bad hurricane hit...
We often
get them bad here in Nova Scotia after they’ve already nailed you guys, and then they travel
up the coast back over the Atlantic,
regain
strength and hit us again...th
ey can be bad but nowhere near as bad
as when they hit you guys first...

Yes, but the mosquitoes will follow you there.

I’ve never been hooked on the news, but since COVID, and maybe even before, I’ve been following it pretty strongly. It’s not fun to read, but it’s not surprising either. Everything is on fire, both literally and metaphorically, and at this point we just have to live with it.
